Have you Been Standing in Your Own Way?

If you keep finding yourself feeling stuck, paralysed, overwhelmed and down on yourself, it’s time to look a bit closer at what’s really going on below the surface. It’s highly likely that you’re actually standing in your OWN way!

During the early years of childhood we accumulate all sorts of beliefs - many of which are not true! (so be careful what you tell or model for your kids! Watch those comments like: "You can't always get what you want", "Money doesn't grow on trees", "Oh you can't do that!")

These beliefs are like a table top. Once the belief is formed and propped up by a few table legs, our brain continuously looks for evidence to prove the belief right. That means, if deep down you believe that you'll need to work hard in order to achieve the goal you have - you will absolutely need to do so! If deep down you believe you're not lovable, you'll create one relationship failure after the next - only to prove yourself right!

If you'd like to change this, you need to remember that whatever has happened in the past is not your fault AND you have the power to take responsibility and start doing things differently.

Life can be busy and full of to-do-lists, but the only person who can change this for you... is you! Don't expect things to change, if you keep running and avoid having a look at what's really going on below the surface.

  • Are you telling yourself your dreams are too grand to even dare to think you could get there?

  • Are you hearing a voice in your head telling you that you can't do it - and therefore keep proving to yourself that you truly can't, by constantly setting yourself up for failure?

  • Are you feeling deep down that you don't deserve it? That you must work hard in order to achieve it and that things don't drop from the sky?

First of all, there is awareness of course. If you're not even aware of what you're doing and are living in victim mentality - aka ‘poor me’ - then you won't even think that there is anything you can do to change your situation. You'll be thinking that everything is out of your control and that you're hard done by, as all those 'bad things' seem to only happen to you and not anyone else. You'll keep creating the same chains of events that you've always created and feel miserable.

“You'll always get what you've always got, when you always do what you've always done.”

If you're however keen to take control over your life back  - and instead of handing all your power away to all those 'bad things', 'bad people', etc and are ready to take your power back over your own wellbeing, you could start with the following:

Ask yourself (after you've taken a big deep breath out!)...

  • What's really important to you right now?

  • What do you really want to achieve or create? Meaning, what expands you?

  • What feels super exciting to you?

Now, break it down. What does it take to get there? Break it all down into little steps and keep chipping away at them. If you focus and keep reminding yourself what it is you desire and why and follow it through with action - you'll be surprised how fast you'll get there!
